Coffee Questions (to help you process the message):

1. What is a nickname or label you had growing up—or one someone gave you—that stuck with you? (It could be funny, positive, embarrassing, or completely ridiculous)

2. “That’s just who I am.” We often use that phrase to describe things about ourselves that we struggle to change, but sometimes we use it as an excuse not to change. What is the difference between recognizing a genuine weakness or tendency in ourselves and using it as an excuse to avoid change?

3. In the message we heard the difference between saying “I struggle with anger” and “I’m an angry person,” or “I’ve failed” and “I’m a failure.” Why do you think the words we use to describe ourselves can have such a powerful effect on how we live?

4. Jacob was known as a deceiver, and Peter was impulsive and eventually denied Jesus - yet God gave both of them a new name (Jacob to Israel and Simon to Peter). What does their story tell us about how God sees us compared with how we may see ourselves?

5. Read 2 Corinthians 5:15. What do you think it means to be a “new creation”? How is that different from simply trying harder to become a better version of yourself?

6. We were given three practical steps to help us experience real, lasting change:

Name It

Replace It

Believe It.

Which of those three is hardest for you, and what might it look like to put that step (or all three) into practice this week?
