COURAGE TO CHANGE

STARTING OVER

MESSAGE (AND COMMUNION)

ANY MORE

CHRIST IS RISEN

INDESCRIBABLE

YOU'VE ALREADY WON

Coffee Questions (to help you process the message):

1.What’s something you were initially nervous or reluctant to change, but now you’re really glad you did? (taking a new job, moving somewhere new, trying a new activity, etc.)

2. Garry talked about status quo bias–our tendency to stick with what we know because it feels safer. Where do you see this tendency in everyday life? How might it show up in our relationship with God?

3. Read Luke 18:18-23. The rich religious leader wanted eternal life, but walked away sad when Jesus asked him to surrender his possessions. What do you think he was afraid of losing? What are some things people today might struggle to surrender to Jesus because of what it could cost them? Why do you think it can be difficult to trust Jesus with those areas of our lives?

4. Read Luke 19:1-7. The rich religious leader and Zacchaeus were both wealthy men, but they responded to Jesus very differently. What do you think made the difference in their responses?

5. Garry said that the fear of what it might cost us (personally, professionally, relationally, financially) to follow Jesus is often the thing that keeps us from experiencing the real, lasting change we desire. What might you be holding onto because you're afraid of what it would cost to let it go? (a habit, resentment, the need for control, etc.) What would trusting Jesus with that area look like this week? What is one practical step you could take toward change?
