Coffee Questions (to help you process the message):
1. Think back to a time when you were the new kid on the block (a new school, workplace, neighbourhood, team, church, etc.) What helped you feel like you belonged? Was it someone who reached out, an invitation, a shared experience, or something else?
2. Jayden talked about moving 28 times in 16 years and never really feeling like he had a place to belong. Why do you think having a sense of belonging and community is so important to us? What happens when someone feels like they don't belong anywhere?
3. Jayden told how his desire to fit in led him to hang around with the wrong crowd and he ended up making some poor decisions. Why do you think we sometimes compromise who we are or what we believe in just to feel accepted or fit in? Where do you see that happening in our culture today?
4. Jayden described how people at the church he attended showed him something different. Wendy bought him lunch, his youth pastor Rich drove a long distance to bring him to youth, and others invited him into their lives. None of them had to do those things. They did them because of the love of Jesus. Who has been a Wendy or a Rich in your life? What impact did their kindness have on you?
5. Read Jeremiah 29:11. This verse was a turning point in Jayden’s story. He said he discovered that God's plans for him weren't primarily about money, popularity, or success, but about experiencing and sharing the love and hope of Jesus. How does that change the way you understand what it means to have a good future?
Jayden's story reminds us that the love we receive from Jesus is meant to be shared with others. He said, "Once you get it, you’ve got to give it." This week, look for someone who might feel like they don't belong, who needs encouragement, or who could use a little hope, and be intentional about inviting them in. You never know how God might use a simple act of kindness to introduce someone to ‘a guy’ who can change their life–Jesus.
