Road Trip: Roadblocks & Detours

Share a time when a road trip or some other trip didn’t go as planned.

1. Read Acts 16:6-15. Why do you think Paul kept moving forward even after God repeatedly put up roadblocks? What does that teach us about following God when we don't understand what he's doing?

2. Garry suggested that roadblocks aren't always obstacles but rather they may be opportunities. Looking back, can you identify a roadblock or detour that God eventually used for good in your life? What did you learn through it?

3. Sometimes we only understand God's roadblocks and detours by looking in the rearview mirror. Is there a current "roadblock" you're facing or detour that you’re on that you're finding difficult to trust God with? What makes trusting him challenging in that situation?

4. The cross looked like the greatest disappointment to Jesus' followers, but it became God's greatest victory. How does remembering the cross change the way we view our own disappointments?

5. What else stood out to you in this message?

This week's challenge was to write down a roadblock and pray: "God, I don't fully understand this road You have me on, but I choose to trust that You are leading me." What would it look like for you to live out that prayer this week in a practical way?
