Whale, I Didn't See That Coming: Rock Bottom Rescue
Read Jonah chapter 2.
1. When was a time when you found yourself in a situation and thought, "Well, I definitely didn't see that coming!" (something serious, funny, unexpected, embarrassing, or life-changing) What happened, and how did it turn out?
2. Jonah didn't pray until he found himself inside the fish. Why do you think we often wait until we've exhausted all our own options before turning to God? Can you relate to that tendency in your own life?
3. Garry suggested that God sometimes works in unexpected ways, not to pay us back, but to bring us back. How does that idea challenge or encourage your view of God, especially during difficult seasons in life?
4. Sometimes when we look back on a difficult chapter of our life, we can see ways that God was working, but at the time we couldn't understand what he was doing. Have you experienced this? If so, what happened and what was it that God up to although you didn’t understand?
5. Garry suggested that the giant fish wasn't Jonah's grave–it was his rescue. Is there a situation in your life right now that feels more like a prison than a gift? How might God be inviting you to trust that he is still at work in the middle of it?
