Different: What's Your Precious?
1. What’s something you owned that at the time you thought you couldn’t live without? (DVD player, pair of designer jeans, etc.)
2. Read Romans 12:2. What are some “patterns of this world” when it comes to money and possessions, and how can a renewed mind help us live differently?
3. Read Matthew 6:19-20. Jesus contrasts storing treasures on earth with storing treasures in heaven. What are some examples of each, and what makes one temporary and the other eternal?
4. Read Matthew 6:21. How does what you value most shape the direction of your life and decisions? What does this verse reveal about the connection between our faith and our finances?
5. Read Matthew 6:22–23. Jesus says if our eyes are healthy, our whole body will be full of light. How might our “focus” or “vision” get clouded by materialism? What does it look like to have “healthy eyes” in a culture obsessed with more?
6. Read Matthew 6:24. Why do you think Jesus framed this as a matter of worship rather than just money management? What does serving God (rather than money) look like in everyday, practical terms?
