What's Up God? A Who, Not A Do

1. If you could go back and give your 18-year-old self one piece of advice about life, work, or following God, what would it be?

2. Garry suggested that we often overcomplicate God’s will by focusing on what we should do instead of who we are becoming. Why do you think we naturally focus more on “do” questions than “who” questions?

3. In the story of David being chosen as king, God says people look at outward appearances but He looks at the heart. What are some outward things people tend to value today that God may care less about?

4. In 1 Thessalonians we read how ‘God’s will is for you to be holy.’ Holy means to be set apart, different. What do you think that actually looks like in everyday life?

5. Garry shared how he once thought he had “missed” God’s will, only to realize God had been shaping his character and story the whole time. Have you ever looked back and realized God was working through a season you didn’t understand at the time?

6. Instead of asking, “What do you want me to do, God?” what might change if you regularly asked, “Who do you want me to become?” What’s one area of character or growth God may be working on in you right now?
