You're Not The Boss Of Me: Fear? Not!

Jun 8, 2025    Garry Firth

1. What’s the silliest or most irrational fear you’ve ever had as a kid (or maybe still have?) Ex: Clowns, the dark, elevators, etc.

2. What’s something that has caused fear or anxiety in your life recently?

3. Garry shared the story of sea lions and explained how fear is a self-correcting alarm. Can you think of a time when fear actually helped protect you or push you toward something healthy?

4. The Bible repeatedly says, “Do not be afraid.” What do you think God is trying to communicate through that repetition? Read Isaiah 41:10 or Psalm 23:4. What stands out to you? How might those verses speak into your current fears?

5. Garry compared fearing God to respecting the ocean. What helps you maintain a sense of awe and reverence for God? What does fearing God mean to you?

Spend some time this week reading Psalm 46:1–3 or John 14:27. What peace do you draw from those words? What would it look like this week to say to whatever fear it is you’re facing: “You’re not the boss of me.”?
