ECHOES & GRACE

ANCIENT PRAYERS FOR ORDINARY PEOPLE

This is designed as a daily companion to help you become grounded and grow in the truth and grace of God through prayer and meditation. Praying through all or part of these prayers is part of an ancient Christian tradition dating back to the very first church. Pray through them daily. You may also wish to pray one or more of these prayers throughout the day.

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. ~ Philippians 4:7
1 Minute Of Silence
Be still, and know that I am God ~ Psalm 46:10
Address
Father God, creator of heaven and earth; God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob;
God of Israel; God and Father of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ;
True and Living God who is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; Have mercy and hear my prayer.
Orthodox Prayer
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, Have mercy on me, a sinner.
Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth; Set up your kingdom in our midst.
Holy Spirit, breath of the living God; Renew me and all the world.
Prayer of Confession
Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed; by what we have done, and by what we have left undone.
We have not loved you with our whole heart and mind and strength. We have not loved our neighbours as ourselves.
Yet in your great mercy, you forgive what we have been. We pray that you will amend what we are, and direct what we shall be, that we may walk in your light, delight in your will, and reflect your radiance, to the glory of your name. Amen
Praying The Psalms
Psalm 23:1-6
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in the paths of righteousness for his Name’s sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table for me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil, my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
Psalm 91:12
He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High, shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “You are my fortress and my refuge, My God in whom I trust.”
Psalm 103:15
Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy Name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits. He pardons all your iniquities, and heals all your diseases; He redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with lovingkindness and mercy; He satisfies you with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me bless His holy name.
The Lord’s Prayer Expanded:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed, holy, sacred be your name. Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised. The whole earth is full of your glory, Who was, and is, and is to come.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, thy reign and rule come, thy plans and purposes be done, on earth as it is in heaven. May we live in anticipation of your kingdom as we embody the reign of Christ here and now. Help us to remember that sometimes You show up in unexpected ways.
Give us this day our daily bread. As we seek first your kingdom and your justice, May all we need be provided for us.
Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.
Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. Transform us by the Holy Spirit into a forgiving community of forgiven people.
Lead us not into temptation, trouble or trial. Be mindful of our frame, for we are dust. We can only take so much.
Deliver us from evil and the evil one. Save us from satan, the accuser, the adversary, so that no weapon formed against us shall prosper, and every fiery dart of the evil one is extinguished by the shield of faith. We draw near to Jesus Christ lifted up, as his cross becomes for us the axis of love expressed in forgiveness that refounds the world.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever and ever.
Petition and Intercession
(Making our needs known and praying for others.)
Personal Prayer for Grace
Lord God, almighty and everlasting Father, You have brought me in safety to this day. Preserve me with your mighty power that I may not fall into sin, nor be overcome by adversity. And in all I do, direct me to the fulfilling of your purpose, through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
Confession Of The Mystery
Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again.
Doxology (meaning ‘the end saying’)
Glory be to the Father and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end, Amen.

PRAYER OF SAINT PATRICK
I arise today through God's strength to pilot me, God's might to uphold me, God's wisdom to guide me, God's eye to see before me,
God's ear to hear me, God's hand to guard me, God's way to lie before me,
God's shield to protect me against snares of devils, against temptations and vices, against everyone who shall wish me ill, afar and anear.
Christ be with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me, Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me.
Christ on my right, Christ on my left, Christ where I lie, Christ where I arise, Christ in every eye that sees me, Christ in every ear that hears me.
Salvation is of the Lord, Jesus Christ.
May your salvation, O Lord, be ever with me.
THE SERENITY PRAYER
God, give me grace to accept with serenity the things that cannot be changed, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to distinguish the one from the other.
Living one day at a time, enjoying one moment at a time, accepting hardship as a pathway to peace; taking, as Jesus did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it.
Trusting that You will make all things right, if I surrender to Your will, so that I may be reasonably happy in this life, and supremely happy with You forever in the next. Amen.
