Valerie Johnstone Valerie had just started going to church when she was asked to attend an Alpha course. Valerie had known about God and Jesus through attending church as a child, but she had not attended church since she was a young teen and had no idea about God’s desire to have a personal experience with us through Jesus Christ. During this Alpha course Valerie had an undeniable experience of God’s existence and love for her, which she feels has changed her life for the better in so many ways. Since then, Valerie has spent many years learning, laughing, eating, and having fun in Alpha groups. Valerie fell in love with everything about Alpha …the format, the safe environment for people to explore Christianity without feeling pressured, meeting lots of great people, the food, the weekend away….but mainly she feels there is nothing more meaningful than to be a part of what God does in people’s lives during an Alpha course. Valerie recognizes that her faith has been stretched beyond belief as she has watched God transform people’s lives (including her own). Valerie has 5 years experience as Director of Alpha and Youth Alpha program prior to coming to The Meeting Place. She has held a volunteer position with Alpha Canada as an Advisor for the upper Island area and has taught at Alpha conferences for those wanting to learn how to run Alpha courses. Did we mention she is passionate about Alpha? Valerie feels privileged to work with an amazing group of people at The Meeting Place and enjoys the unique closeness that is found when serving in this ministry. Valerie works as a child protection social worker and when she’s not doing something with Alpha, she likes to read, play board games and cards, golf with her husband David, go bicycling, and spend time with her family, especially her granddaughter, Abigail. |
